The book's title is "The song of Achilles". The book's author is Madeline Miller; she was born in Boston, she has got a doctorate in classic Letter and she's taught dramaturgy in Yale.
This book released for the first time in September 2011, it became her debut novel, in fact it has won the Orange Prize and it was translated in 25 languages.
It's a romance novel, so there are love stories, the most important one is between Achille and Patroclo.
The story takes place in the XIl century b.C. during the war of Troia.
In the book there aren't scenes of war, duels, blood and dead, but the journey of two young people, before friends and then lovers.
The narrator's voice is Patrocio, Menezio's son.
The most important character of the story are Achille, Peleo and Teti's son; he was the greatest warrior of his generation and the most beautiful one. In the lliade he is called "fast foot".
He has a strong character and he was very determinate. He had got noble feelings, the conferm is the love for his "friend" Patroclo. This last is very kind and inclusive.
Madeline Miller's style is simple and linear, she describe the environment in the minimal details that is around the subjects of the story.
In my opinion this book is emotional, sad and shocking at the same time. Thanks to author's style of writing, the book become very exciting and you can know the story's evolution of their relationships, that is described with very softness.
